Located in Nevada County CA, here at Gruff Goats Fire Defense we are dedicated to reducing the fuel load across our county.
Our goats are a good step in the creation of defensible space for your home and our community, able to clear out dense vegetation regardless of slope. They can make it much more accessible for a human crew to come in immediately after the goats to clear trees and wood chippers.
Goats are in some ways, much cheaper than hiring a crew of humans to do the same work. Goats can climb slopes too steep for humans, and goats do not require equipment. No machinery, no herbicides.
And unlike a human crew that only work certain hours of the day, goats are a 24/7 work crew. Yes, even at night. Goats enjoy a midnight snack too. Humans require protective gear to guard against thorns or poisonous plants, goats do not need anything but an appetite. Goats eat thorns and poison oak with ease. Goats even leave behind fertilizer for the forests, promoting healthy plants and trees.
